JONATHAN STONE
From Imagining to Managing
I am a performer, musician and writer.
I like making things that cross genres and boundaries of language and culture,
But my world has changed...
Some years ago I began to occasionally fall over. In March 2017 I was diagnosed with Spinal Cerebellar Ataxia, an unpredictable 'incurable condition', so they say.
The diagnosis was scary but now I manage it better.
I have learnt to count my blessings - yes my mobility is limited, physical performance is less of an option.
Times, culture and post-Covid, things are different,
so my focus has changed:
-writing stories, writing about performance, body language, disability and balance,
-keeping neural connections active with stretching, breathing and exercise outside, -connecting brain to fingertips by relearning guitar and piano,
-singing and writing songs in invented languages,
-meditating, walking.
-I am still working with what connects and communicates,
drawing embodied connection between movement awareness and well being,
-developing new Facedance projects,
-advising and coaching other performance makers.
whether imagining or managing
On we go ...
